J. Bergquist Paper Paintings

I work with paper, cutting, tearing, slicing, and layering to create 2-D dimensional images. Get close and see that the texture, depth, light and shadow are developed through the layering, texture and choice of colored paper.

Cape Beauty Parrot

The Cape Beauty Parrot is a short-tailed moderately large bird with a very large beak used to crack all sorts of hard nuts and fruit kernels, especially those of African yellowwood trees. It is an endangered species that lives in Afromontane forests at moderate altitudes in eastern South Africa. Only a 1000 remain. It is threatened by the fatal psittacine beak and feather disease virus, suggestions that a diet heavy in yellowwood fruits greatly reduces the symptoms. Medium: Paper, gel medium on Canvas. 9" x 12"
